ARTIST STATEMENT

I am fascinated with the process and the materials of jewelry making. My pieces are hand fabricated using traditional techniques. Using sterling silver sheet, strip or wire, I fabricate box forms. I often solder these various shaped boxes together to make a more complicated composition. I usually finish all of the silver work on the piece and then fill the boxes with polymer clay using various techniques; drilling, stamping and carving.

I spend a lot of time considering scale, wear-ability, color, function and versatility. Many of my pieces can be worn with the very colorful side showing or reversed to a patterned silver side. Other pieces have multiple components that can be re-arranged to make a completely new look.

It is always my goal in designing a piece of jewelry to have it look better on the wearer than it did in the case. When this happens, I know that I have been successful.
